Description

Motivation and application domain
Development and characterization of a thermosensitive hydrogel for cell encapsulation for applications in tissue engineering.

General objectives and main activities
A biopolymeric hydrogel will be developed, which is liquid at room temperature, has a pH compatible with cells and becomes a gel as at body temperature, without imparting cellular functions. The biopolymers to be used will be polysaccharides, such as alginate or chitosan. The hydrogel will be characterized by scanning electron microscopy, mechanical testing, optical and confocal microscopy and in vitro tested using primary neurons.

Training Objectives (technical/analytical tools, experimental methodologies)
To gain practical experience in the development, engineerization and characterization of thermosensitive hydrogels for the encapsulation of cells to be used in tissue engineering applications.

Place(s) where the thesis work will be carried out: DIBRIS
