Description
Motivation and application domain
Design, fabrication and functionalization with gold nanorods biopolymeric patterns for in vitro neuronal network.
General objectives and main activities
Polysaccharide based micropatterned surfaces will be developed and functionalized with ad hoc synthetized gold nanorods. The micropatterns will be characterized by optical microscopy and by selective adhesion of neuronal cells. The micropatterns will be developed onto the surface of microelectrode arrays and optical stimulation will be used to modulate the electrophysiological activity.
Training Objectives (technical/analytical tools, experimental methodologies)
To gain practical experience in the development, engineerization and characterization of micropatterned polysaccharidic surfaces and on the synthesis of gold nanorods for the controlled development of neuronal networks.
Place(s) where the thesis work will be carried out: DIBRIS
