Description
Motivation and application domain
Design, fabrication and characterization of in vitro patterned neuronal networks.
General objectives and main activities
Polysaccharide based micropatterned surfaces, based on chitosan and alginate, will be developed. The micropatterns will be characterized by optical microscopy and by selective adhesion of neuronal cells. The micropatterns will be developed onto the surface of microelectrode arrays in order for the neuronal cultures to fit the fixed location of electrodes in order to study the relationship between structure and function.
Training Objectives (technical/analytical tools, experimental methodologies)
To gain practical experience in the development, engineerization and characterization of micropatterned polysaccharidic surfaces for the controlled development of neuronal networks.
Place(s) where the thesis work will be carried out: DIBRIS, University of Genova
