Description
Motivation and application domain
Design, fabrication and characterization of biopolymeric nanoparticles and their functionalization with antimicrobial molecules..
General objectives and main activities
Development of multi-targeting formulations nanoengineered to display both antibiofilm and antibacterial activities. The proposed formulations will be based on green compounds in order to be safely used in different environment (e.g. sinks and pipes). The proposed approach lies on the combinatorial action of biofilm degrading enzymes and plant extracts having antibacterial activity. The bioactive components, enzymes and plant molecules specifically selected for the pathogen under treatment, will be conjugated to biocompatible and biodegradable polymeric nanoparticles in order to confer stability and increase bioavailability.
Training Objectives (technical/analytical tools, experimental methodologies)
To gain practical experience in the development, engineerization and characterization of a antimicrobial nanoparticles.
