Address: Via Opera Pia 13 Phone: (+39) 010 33 56547
Description

Motivation and application domain
Design, fabrication and characterization of composite alginate hydrogels loaded with layer-by-layer assembled microstructures loaded with enzymes and co-reactants for the development of biosensing matrixes.

General objectives and main activities
The composite hydrogels will be characterized by standard spectroscopic techniques, quartz crystal microbalance and scanning electron microscopy. The functionality of the hydrogel will be characterized by state-of-the art electrochemical techniques and by electrochemiluminescence (ECL). The novel matrixes will be tested toward ECL detection of dopamine and serotonine in the presence of ascorbic acid. The as-prepared sensor could have interesting applications for biomedical field.

Training Objectives (technical/analytical tools, experimental methodologies)
To gain practical experience in the development and engineerization of a multi-composite hydrogel as sensing element in electrochemiluminescence applications.

Place(s) where the thesis work will be carried out: DIBRIS, University of Genoa; Swansea Universty, Wales UK.
