Motivation and application domain
Design, fabrication and characterization of composite chitosan microbeads with optimal characteristics for the sustained drug release.
General objectives and main activities
Polysaccharide based microbeads, mainly based on chitosan and its modified forms, will be developed. The possibility to functionalized the microbeads surface by polymers or by the conductive elements will be taken into account. The microbeads will be characterized by standard spectroscopic techniques and by scanning electron and optical microscopies. The loading and release properties of the microbeads will be evaluated by uv-vis spectroscopy.
Training Objectives (technical/analytical tools, experimental methodologies)
To gain practical experience in the development, engineerization and characterization of a biopolymeric microbeads with tunable characteristics respect to their releasing properties.
