Description

Motivation and application domain
Humans continuously integrate multiple information from different sensory modalities to make sense of the external world and to decide which action to make. Few studies addressed multisensory integration in human-human interaction scenarios. The project aims at investigating whether and how - when involved in an interaction - humans integrate information from different sensory modalities.

General objectives and main activities
The main objective of the project is to investigate how two interacting individuals use the available information about the partner to establish a successful coordination. To this purpose, the project will involve several activities:
1. Based on the scientific question, an experimental setup and protocol will be developed by integrating existing technologies in the laboratory.
2. Data collection: pair of participants will be recruited for the experiment.
3. Data analysis

Training Objectives (technical/analytical tools, experimental methodologies)
1. Synchronization of different acquisition systems (haptic interfaces, audio signal generation tools)
2. Experiments with humans
3. Behavioral data analysis in Matlab/Python

Place(s) where the thesis work will be carried out: Human Robotics Lab, Imperial College London (UK)
